Bringing the community together for a hybrid concert experience featuring professional musicians in a relaxed, affordable venue is the mission of newly created TURNMusic.
Founder, Conductor and Artistic Director Anne Decker has mixed her musical tastes to create a unique set of performances that will be presented Wednesday, July 9, at 8 p.m. by Arts Riot and Friday, July 18, at 8 p.m. at the Green Mountain Club in Waterbury Center.
“TURNMusic is defined by quality, not by genre,” explains Decker. “The musicians featured on the programs are some of Vermont’s finest and are in demand because of their ability to perform various styles.”
The July programs will feature ‘Crossing Jordan’, a premiere piece of music written by Vermont singer/songwriter/guitarist Colin McCaffrey. He will perform alongside a clarinet, violin, cello, double bass, and percussion. Also featured is, Reeling, by composer Julia Wolfe. She took a field recording of a French-Canadian folk tune and ‘reeled’ it into music for clarinet, guitar, cello, piano, bass, and percussion.
Decker’s inspiration for TURNmusic came from a turn in her life.
“I was looking for another professional, artistic outlet,” she says. “I wanted to merge my musical and social worlds. They've tended to be separate.”
TURNMusic is still evolving and will continue to present concerts that surprise audiences.
“I love creating programs that are modern and might involve unexpected instrumentation or collaboration,” shares Decker.
The programs will include eight pieces. A list of composers and performers follows.
Composers: Julia Wolfe, Nico Muhly, Colin McCaffrey, Sarah Kirkland Snider, David Biedenbender, Missy Mazzoli, Judd Greenstein, and Jason Treuting
Performers: Mary Rowell, Laura Markowitz, John Dunlop, Evan Premo, Dan Liptak, Hilary Goldblatt, Colin McCaffrey, Parker Shper, Lloyd Dugger, Nic Cannizzaro, and Anne Decker
